Caring for Your Neopet
All Neopets need some sort of care or love; all of them need different types of it. Some love it when they are smothered in love with their owner following them around, doing every last deed. Some like to be left alone. To have a house some food a toy and that’s that. They don’t like to go outside at all. But, most Neopets like a bit of everything… So I’m hoping this guide well help you through the confusing steps to caring for your Neopet!
Step 1- Eating Time!
When it comes to eating time some Neopets well eat ANYTHING, some are really picky and don’t eat much. When you feed you Neopet don’t just give it the food you found or got for free (jelly, omelette; etc.), try and make an effort in going out to some random store, either on Shop Wizard or anywhere else to buy some good food! Don’t pick the cheapest one and bargain it down to 100 NP; look at each piece of food and ask yourself; Well my Neopet like this, and actually eat it? Is this food appropriate? Would I eat it if I had to? How hungry is my Neopet? Also think of how much NP you’re willing to spend, let’s say you find something for 1500 NP and you’ve only got 3000 NP all together this is probably out of the question because you probably wouldn’t like to spend 50 % of your neopoints for a bit of food.
Once you’ve found the most perfect meal, bargain it down a bit and take it home. If you want you can look for a drink to wash it down. Try not to just buy a drink for the meal. Oh and if you see some more good food buy it if you can and you can save it for later.
Now it’s time to experiment, feed you food to your Neopet. It’ll probably say a comment about the food you gave to it. Most of the time they’ll gobble it down and say something like, “I needed that!” or “Please buy me more Neocrackers, Please!” etc, but sometimes they might say “Yuck!” or “I’m not eating that!” and spit it out or just not eat it. Make sure you find out what your Neopet likes and dislikes and keep it in mind next time you buy food. Also keep in mind that if you Neopet is very hungry it’ll probably eat anything, but if it’s very full it’ll probably eat what it wants to eat not what it have’s too.
You might even want to base the food you give it on a special theme and try to buy it something special on its Birthday (the date you first created it, if you can’t remember just make one up! Mine is March the 1st ).
Step 2- Don’t get too dirty!
All of us probably don’t like getting too dirty or wearing the same set of clothes for a month; so don’t your Neopets! All Neopets MUST keep there hygiene up, whether they like it or not. A basic hygiene pack you should always keep in your inventory (not in your Safety Deposit Box!) should contain what you use every day (excludes make up). Normally you could find all this for each item around 100-200 NP, of course if you’ve got a bit extra to spare maybe buy a bit more better quality items. Of course if you want to buy some make up for your Neopet get some! I recommend a compact set instead of having each separate item like eye shadow, lipstick, nail polish, blush etc. The compact I have now is the Hasee Bounce Compact and you can get it for around about 1000NP, remember the makeup is for owners who have a bit to spare but ALL good Neopet owners should get a hygiene pack!
Now you now can dress up your Neopet too! You can sometimes win wearable clothes, but you can buy it with Neocash and spend it at the Neomall, unfortunately you’ve gotta spend a bit of real money to get some BUT you might just get a chance to win some at a secret place…
Remember to change your Neopet’s clothes ATLEAST one a week. If you haven’t got a wide variety of clothes just put some on, then take it off and switch between the two.
WARNING- Never share hygienic items or clothes between Neopets, this can spread diseases and make your Neopets upset.
Step 3-Study Hard!
Once you’ve gotten a really feed up Neopet, with all the looks- Let’s just say a full package, you still want it to know how to count right? Well Neoschool has just opened so now it’s time to get your Neopet really smart! But attending certain Neoschools doesn’t mean it’s getting as smart as you want it to be. A good way to make sure it’s learning enough and still can learn out of Neoschool is to read it LOTS of books, remember Neopets don’t like to read the same book again; so check your book list often to see what books they’ve already read.
But playing games can also keep your Neopet smart and keen to learn, in the games section there is plenty of educational games and word games, puzzle, strategy and board games are OK. The games I recommend to keep your Neopet sharp are the following:
(Remember these are the ones I recommended, and that work well with my Neopets, yours might like different games.)
1. Imperial Exam
2. Maths Nightmare
3. The Castle of Eliv Thade
4. Word Pyramid
5. Typing Terror
Above are the top 5 “keep your Neopet smart” games. I hope you play them as much as you can to keep your Neopet in shape!
Talking about in shape…
Step 4- Play Hard!
All Neopets need to go outside and play hard, meaning going crazy and having all the cooped up energy explode into carefree running and exercising. But not only can that help, you can also play action, adventure and arcade games in the games section to keep your Neopet happy and healthy. Here’s a list for the games:
(Again it may be different for your Neopet.)
1. Hannah and the Ice/Pirate Caves
2. Turmac Roll
3. Revel Roundup
4. Let It Slide
5. Meerca Chase II
Also try to buy physical toys, like balls or Frisbees for there petpet (which they should have, and no cardboard ones!) which they can throw around. Try and give them a spacious garden, don’t cover it up with flowers and statues so they don’t have any place to run around!
After all that fun, they deserve a special treat, try and get them a small icy treat or something like that just to cool them down!
Step 5- Your Neopets Birthday!
Everyone should have a Birthday, especially your Neopet! Try and buy it a special something, and don’t hold back on Neopoints! Remember only ONCE a year! And if you can’t remember its Birthday (the day you created it) then make one up! Every Neopet deserves a birthday!
Step 6- Neohome!
Neohomes! My favourite step, i love designing my Neopet’s Neohome and buying it new creative furniture!
Now some owners don’t like buying Neohomes because its get’s very pricey, and their right, it does. BUT your Neopet LOVES Neohomes, especially it’s very own.
You might want to wait before you get a Neohome. Don’t buy cardboard homes…because you can’t change it later own. Forcing you demolish it and rebuild or live with a miserable Neopet because it only has one room made out of cardboard with no furniture. Here are a few steps to making a decent Neohome for your Neopet.
1. Buy 3 rooms (BEDROOM, BATHROOM AND A KITCHEN, the basics of a Neohome) made out of anything, but should be at least BAMBOO or above. (Mine are all MARBLE)
2. Place furniture for all rooms, DECENT furniture. Make sure all rooms have at least ONE window.
3. Add some extension options, try and get MAX for everything.
4. Try and add a garden on and place plants there too.
5. Work on from that!
I hope the list above helped!
Step 7- Mood
Also watch out for your Neopet’s mood, even though your Neopet CAN”T die, it’s not good to leave it starving and miserable. The least you could do is taking to the Neolodge. But if you follow the list above well enough, your Neopet will become DELIGHTED! Which is the happiest it can get! Enjoy!
Now it comes down to the end of my article. I hope this get’s issued in the Neopian Times and if you’ve got any further questions or criticism be neomail me anytime! (My username for NEOPETS is chi_tripe, I have 2 neopets) Keep in mind all the tips you have read and let’s make ALL Neopets DELIGHTED!
